7 layout mistakes that make a 3BHK feel smaller than it is

Small planning choices that quietly eat usable space — and how to avoid them.

7 layout mistakes that make a 3BHK feel smaller than it is
Square footage isn't the only thing that determines how spacious a home feels. In our experience walking clients through completed 3BHK homes, the same handful of layout mistakes come up again and again.

1. Furniture-blocking doorways — leaving too little clearance around entry points makes rooms feel cramped before you've even placed furniture.
2. Under-lit interior rooms — a single ceiling light in the centre of a room creates harsh shadows and makes corners disappear.
3. Ignoring sightlines from the entrance — the first view into your home sets the tone for the whole space.
4. Oversized corridors — corridors wider than necessary steal square footage from rooms that need it more.
5. Mismatched flooring transitions — too many material changes fragment a space visually.
6. Under-planned storage — without built-in storage, floor space gets consumed by furniture.
7. Ignoring vertical space — tall rooms with low-set storage waste the upper third of every wall.
